Detailing these Dash-9s is a very fun project.  If you own one of these beauties yourself, I would highly recomend detailing them out.  They looked good to start out with, but with some extra eye-catching details, these engines will look like museum pieces.  Here are some under construction pictures of three BNSF C44-9Ws - enjoy and good luck with your projects!!

Disassembly. Don't be afraid!! Yes, it is always hard to tear into a new engine but it will be rewarding.  Helpful Hint: There are hidden screws everywhere - make sure that you get them all out before trying to remove the shell. There are screws under the fuel tank and hidden in the corners.

They are DONE!!!

Detailing begins.  Shock absorbers, air lines and brake rigging is installed on the trucks.

Underbody detail.  This step is up to you. You can include every pipe, no pipes, or do what I did and find a middle ground. Be careful!!  If you plan to run this locomotive, make sure you keep in mind truck clearance!!  I learned this the hard way - the motor blocks will not always be level (like they are on the workbench). They tilt up and down, left and right!!

If it is the lead unit, put some people in the cab (no one will notice that they are all the same).

Test track and some night running.
