Summer ’09 at the MannM RR Well, this summer has been extremely busy at the railroad!!! All the stars have come into alignment and given us the chance to make giant progress on the layout. A new control room has been constructed, all of the waterfalls are complete, a majority of the walls have stone on them now, and some other very unique features have been added. We’re still not done, but a huge chunk of work has been completed.
Here are some before and after pictures:

Waterfalls

Cool new features... The first new thing is the foundation for the track from the control room to the layout. One hundred and seventy feet of storage will be able to run out to the mainlines. Below, one shelf is in and the other is outlined in blue.

Here is the view from the outside of the building. The red line indicates the track.

Again, red line is for future track. A removable bridge will span the gap when trains are brought in and out.

Next is the pond area. The red line is where a future track will be. Water will fall off the slate, over the train, and into the pond. A groove has been cut in the slate so that water will “sheet” over instead of trickle over the fall.

A cement two track arch bridge was constructed…

…as well as the Hoover Dam.

Shay Area
The shay area was almost completed this summer. All the rock has been put up along the walls, a separate water feature added, and two new tunnel entrances created.
